Most healthy snacks have one big problem: they don’t feel like a treat.

These energy ball recipes are different.

Some taste like Banana Bread. Some taste like Carrot Cake. Some taste like Key Lime Pie. One is surprisingly close to a homemade Snickers bar.

Energy balls recipes on a kitchen top.

After sharing several energy ball recipes over the past few weeks, Louise and I quickly realized we weren’t the only ones obsessed with them. They became some of the most saved and shared snack recipes on our site.

And honestly, I get it.

They’re easy to make, easy to keep in the fridge or freezer, and they satisfy that afternoon craving for something sweet without feeling overly indulgent.

Whether you’re craving peanut butter, chocolate, banana bread, lemon, or key lime pie, you’ll find a favorite here.

1. Peanut Butter Energy Balls

Peanut butter energy balls with chocolate chips in soft natural window light.

The recipe we make most often.

These soft, chewy bites taste like peanut butter cookie dough with little pockets of chocolate throughout.

Perfect for: meal prep, post-workout snacks, peanut butter lovers.

2. Banana Bread Energy Balls

Plate of banana oat energy balls with chocolate chips, one ball cut open to show texture.

Everything you love about banana bread, rolled into a soft, chewy snack. Cozy, cinnamon-spiced, and surprisingly close to a slice of homemade banana bread.

Perfect for: breakfast meal prep, kids, using up ripe bananas.

3. Carrot Cake Energy Balls

Carrot cake energy balls with oats and walnuts on marble counter beside fresh carrots in natural light.

These genuinely taste like carrot cake.

Made with carrots, walnuts, dates, raisins, cinnamon, and ginger, they’re soft, warmly spiced, and surprisingly satisfying.

Perfect for: afternoon coffee breaks, carrot cake fans, healthy dessert cravings.

4. Date Energy Balls

Stack of homemade date energy balls with soft chewy texture and oats visible throughout.

Rich, fudgy, and deeply chocolatey, these taste more like brownie truffles than a healthy snack.

Perfect for: chocolate cravings, freezer snacks, quick energy boosts.

5. Snickers Energy Balls

Stack of snickers energy balls by a window.

These are dangerously close to tasting like a Snickers bar.

Dates create a caramel-like center, peanuts add crunch, and dark chocolate ties everything together.

They’re sweet, salty, chewy, crunchy, and one of the first batches to disappear whenever we make them.

Perfect for: dessert lovers, afternoon cravings, chocolate-peanut fans.

6. Lemon Energy Balls

Coconut-coated Lemon Energy Balls stacked on stone platter with bright lemon zest.

Bright, fresh, and surprisingly addictive.

Fresh lemon zest, dates, almond flour, and coconut create a soft texture that tastes somewhere between a lemon cookie and a lemon truffle.

Perfect for: spring and summer snacking, citrus lovers, lighter treats.

7. Key Lime Pie Energy Balls

Key lime pie energy balls coated in coconut with lime zest, dates, and fresh limes on marble.

If summer had an official energy ball, this would be it. Packed with fresh lime flavor, coconut, and crunchy bits of graham cracker, these taste surprisingly close to actual key lime pie.

I especially love these straight from the freezer on hot days.

Perfect for: summer snacks, make-ahead treats, key lime pie fans.

How We Store Them

Most of these energy balls keep well in the refrigerator for about a week and freeze beautifully for up to 3 months.

In fact, we often make a double batch and keep half in the freezer.

I actually prefer eating them straight from frozen because they become cold, dense, and extra chewy.

Which One Is Your Favorite?

If we had to choose, Louise would probably pick Lemon Energy Balls.

I would pick Peanut Butter Energy Balls.

But honestly, whichever batch is currently sitting in the fridge usually becomes our favorite.
