Our recipe for candied walnuts will give you shiny, crunchy, light, and toasted candied walnuts that are super easy to make.Candied walnuts are just delicious. You'll only need 3 ingredients to make them: walnut, sugar, and a pinch of salt. They are perfect to add to a salad or to eat as a sweet treat.
The first step is to line a bakingtray (or a cooling rack if you have one) with a sheet of parchmentpaper. Also, prepare 2 forks. We will need this equipment later on but you should prepare it in advance.
To a medium sized pot, add the walnuts. Put on medium-low heat, and toast the walnuts for 2 to 3 minutes while stirring them. When they are slightly toasted, set them aside on a plate.
In the same pot, on low heat, add the sugar and a pinch of salt. Make sure the pot is clean, without any walnut residue before adding the sugar.
Let the sugar melt on low heat. It should take about 1 to 2 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent the sugar from burning, especially on the edges of the pot.NOTE: if at any point your sugar starts to smoke/burn, turn the heat off for a moment to let the pan cool down a bit.
When the sugar has completely melted, add the toasted walnuts, and stir, trying to coat the walnuts in the sugar. This should take you about 1 minute.
Transfer the walnuts onto the baking tray that you prepared before, and with the forks, separate the walnuts from one another. Work swiftly, as the sugar cools down quickly.
Let the candied walnuts cool down completely before using them in salads or as a snack.
STORAGE: store in an airtight container in a dry corner of your kitchen for up to 1 month.
