Here's a tender yet jerky braised tofu recipe with a mildly sweet, tangy, and absolutely delicious Asian-inspired sauce.

STEP 1: Prep your ingredients

STEP 2:  Pat tofu dry with a paper towel then slice it into ¼-inch strips (0.6 cm).

STEP 3: Cut mushrooms in quarters. Slice the bell pepper into strips.

STEP 4: In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch and water to make the cornstarch slurry.

STEP 5: Add tofu slices to a hot pan, season with salt and black pepper, and cook on medium-low heat for about 8 minutes, flipping it once.

STEP 6: On the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of oil and pan-fry bell peppers and mushrooms on medium-high heat for 3 minutes.

STEP 7:Add tofu slices to the pan, pour in the sauce, make sure it covers the tofu, and simmer on medium heat for 2 - 3 minutes.

Transfer the tofu to a platepour the sauce over it, and sprinkle with the green part of the scallions and sesame seeds.
